A question

If all Christian media
was put into one room...

...how would you find media that interests you?

Similarly

When ministries get
a bulk of media...

...how will their audience find what interests them?

This is a solved problem in the physical world...

...let's also solve it in the Christian digital
media landscape

What if in 3 years from now,
you can search over all Christian media...

...in any language in the category that you find interesting...

...and receive an email when new media is created.

Wondering how?
Do we need to create a meeting with everyone involved?

It is similar to Google. There are challenges though

Media begins with a message, a vision, something to tell.

(The Gospel message is also what drove me and my wife to use our skills in Gods kingdom)

There is a huge opportunity to
reach millions digitally

After creation it needs to be distributed, passed over so that it can reach out

But we must get
the right media
into the right hands

Contextualized
media works

  • Communicate in their language
  • Match their culture
  • Meet them where they are

"When thirsty,
a glass of water is often
better than a shower"

But media has a long road to travel from the creator to the person

The properties for contextualization help everyone to filter media

The journey of digital media

A little deep dive
into media properties

  1. Language
  2. Categories
  3. Structure
  4. Purpose

1. Language

BCP47

Combines many well known
standards into a powerful language tag

en-US English as used,
in the United States
en-GB English as used,
in Great Britain
uk Ukrainian,
looks a lot like the UK
es-419 Spanish as spoken
in Latin America
rmn-x-HIS15999 Balkan Romani, in the
East Bulgarian dialect of the HIS
sr-Latn-HR Serbian as spoken in Croatia,
written with the latin script
de-CH-1901 German as used in Switzerland,
orthography of 1901

What if platforms don't have the correct language tag option?

2. Categories

Global Christian Taxonomy

Specifying Christian media categories so that Christians all over the world can search for media catered to their needs

Goals

  • Translations in many languages
  • Categories with many sub categories
  • Available for YouTube and WordPress etc
  • Unsplash image, color & icon

You can use it everywhere

gct:biographies-and-memoirs

We are searching for partners to get this initiative off the ground, do you want to join?

3. Structure

Structure

Can a machine read your website?

  • Google optimization
  • APIs to distribute your media
  • You can keep control

4. Purpose

The Gray Matrix

Can we define the
audience as a position
in the Christian journey?

The Gray Matrix

Bundled Media

A gateway to media

Bundled Media is a prototype
to achieve the vision of this talk

...we hope to see it more developed...

...the challenge is more organisational than technical

Do you have materials
that could be shared?

Vimeo, YouTube, Website, PDFs, Spotify etc?

LightNet

So why all this interest in making the Christian media landscape more interconnected?

We are creating LightNet...

LightNet is like an empty box...

...which you can fill with your or others their materials...

...and publish one or multiple web apps (PWA) with that

Next two priorities

  • Community engagement features
  • Sharing media with other LightNets

Thanks! Questions?
